Issues

• Original run shipped the wrong image. The 2026-07-07 06:37 scheduled run researched the six stories above correctly, but Codex's built-in image tool did not persist a fresh render (bug #28881 — renders inline, writes no PNG). The recovery step then copied the newest file it found in the shared ~/.codex/generated_images/ cache without verifying it belonged to this run, and picked up a stale 2026-06-20 "Music in 1970" render from a Music-Yearbooks collection job. That landscape (1536x1024) image was resized to portrait and published as the daily news collage, and the run reported success — a silent soft-miss.
• Correction. On 2026-07-07 the collage was re-rendered from the saved prompt via the Gemini fallback (gemini_image.py, gemini-3.1-flash-image, 2:3) and normalized to 1024x1536, replacing the stale PNG. The story research and metadata were already correct and are unchanged.
• Fix. The image-recovery logic in the daily/monthly/weekly news-collage wrappers was hardened to reject any ~/.codex/generated_images/ candidate not created during the current run (freshness/provenance guard), so a stale cached render can no longer be scavenged.
